僕のお母さんは、僕が小さいときの頃の話をするのが大好きなんだ。どうやら僕たちはあのDiana Ross率いるthe Supremesと同じ飛行機に乗った事があるみたいなんだ(!!) そのころはビジネスクラスやファーストクラスなんてなかったから、彼女ととっても近い空間にいたみたい。僕はそんなことも知らず、彼女の大きい髪の毛で遊び始めたみたいなんだ。Diana Rossじゃなかったみたいなんだけど、それが彼女本人だったら大変だったね(笑) そんな話をお母さんから聞いてるうちに60年代にコネクションを感じる様になったんだ。とくにDiana Rossにね!!!
My mum loves to tell me a story about how when I was a little baby, we shared a flight with Diana Ross and the Supremes. Back in those days, there was no first class or Business Class, so we were all up close and personal. Apparently, I was fascinated with one of the girl’s BIG hair and started to play with it. It wasn’t Diana Ross – oh god I wish it was! – but I have always felt a connection with those old 60s girl bands and of course, to Miss Ross herself. And big hair, come to think of it!

10代になった頃、僕はニューヨークのストリートカルチャーに夢中になる。ダンスミュージックやクラブカルチャー、もちろんファッションもね。常に僕のお気に入りの映画である“Slave of New York”を見ていたのをよく覚えてる。まだこの映画を見た事無い君、今すぐ見る事をお勧めするよ!! この映画は80年代のファッションやアートに関する映画でStephen Sprouseが衣装を手がけたとっても素敵な映画なんだ。映画の中のとある朝、ランダムなドラッグクイーンがthe Supremesの格好で街に繰り出すって言う僕が一番お気に入りなシーンがあるんだ。このYoutubeを是非見てもらいたいな。
When I grew older, as a teenager, I became obsessed by New York street culture, dance music, and club culture. And of course fashion! I remember watching a movie – still one of my favourites – called “Slaves of New York”. If you haven’t seen it, you really should. It’s all about the New York fashion and art scene in the 1980s, with amazing fashion by Stephen Sprouse. There’s a fantastic part where one morning, some random drag queens dressed as The Supremes come walking down the street, and its one of my favourite movie scenes ever. So it was a real rush to see the new “Baby Love” collection from House of Holland, inspired by the girl groups of old, and which has a real retro feel to it. Big bright colours and geometric shapes, flared sleeves and glitter everywhere! House of Holland has been around for a while, but it isn’t very well known in Japan. So I was really happy to see it on iheartokyo.com my favourite fashion website. Designed by Londoner Henry Holland, House of Holland celebrates big, brash prints and the world of POP.
