小さい頃はドバイに住むなんて夢にも思ってなかったのが事実。結果、ドバイは僕の人生で大きな一部になることになるんだけど、今は日本でこう生活を送っていてよく思うことは、人生って本当に何が起こるかわからないってこと。僕がドバイに住んでいたのはもうかれこれ10年前の話。ドバイのOK!っていう雑誌で働くことになって、オーストラリアからドバイへの移住はとってもカルチャーショックだったのを今でも覚えている。それはいい意味でも、変わった意味でも自分を大きく変えることになった出来事の一つ。
I never expected to live in Dubai all those years ago (10 years ago this year!) and I never expected that Dubai would play such a strong part in my life after I happily moved to japan from there. But that’s the mystery of how things turn out. When I was hired originally as the editor-in-chief of the start-up of OK! Magazine Dubai, it was a complete culture shock – moving to Dubai from Australia was so completely different, strange and mesmerizing.
ドバイに引っ越してから1週間もたたないほど、僕は生涯忘れることのできないパーティーに招待されたんだ。会場はRoyal Mirageホテル。プールに囲まれた椅子に座ってリラックスしていたのを今だに覚えている。ここで僕がドバイのグラマラスさのポテンシャルを体感したんだ。ミドルイーストの中でも一番おすすめのこのホテル。アラビアンなインテリアやお庭、ミドルイーストを目と体で楽しんだドバイで初めての日、来たばかりの僕にとってはこの先を楽しみにさせてくれる一夜になったよ。
Having settled into Dubai for less than a week, I was invited to an unforgettable party in the One&Only Royal Mirage hotel, where we literally sat in chairs suspended in the pool. It was my first glimpse of the glamorous potential of Dubai, and my first time of many at my favourite hotel in the Middle East. With its Arabian fantasy interior and gardens, it was my first time of being transported into the Middle east of old, where luxury and gorgeousness reigned.
数週間前のパリでのファッションウィークの前にちょっとドバイに寄ったんだ。もちろんRoyal Mirageホテルにも行ったよ。写真で見てもわかるように、抜群の景色にパーフェクトな白砂のビーチ。歩いただけでも楽しいこのホテルの魅力は、語り尽くせないほど!!
Returning a few weeks ago on the way to Paris, I dedicated an entire day to lounging by the Royal Mirage pool – well, pools, in fact, as the gardens and buildings span an entire chunk of the Dubai coast, complete with white sandy beaches. There’s the Arabian Court, the Residence and The Palace (my favourite!) to explore.

With views over the majestic Palm Jumeirah, as the sun goes down it’s part Arabic fantasy, part scifi explosion of light and modernity which engulfs you in the whirlwind that is Dubai.
午後に僕たちはヨットを借りてPersian Gulfに。満点の星空の下での水遊びは本当に贅沢!!
In the afternoon we hired a yacht and headed out into the Persian Gult, swimming under the stars before returning to the beautiful One&Only Royal Mirage pools…
ドバイと言ったらやっぱり泳がなきゃね!!
