ついこの前、何年かぶりに北京に行ってきた。僕が最後に北京に訪れた時はまだ五つ星のホテルは一つしかなくて、マクドナルドの第一号店がオープンしたばかりだったのを覚えてる。今回の目的は僕たちのクライアントのブティック、ShineのエクスクルーシブDRYCLEANONLYのローンチパーティに招待されたんだ。
It’s been a while since I’ve been to Beijing – the last time I was there they only had one 5-Star hotel and Mcdonald’s had just opened their first restaurant there – eek! So when I was invited by Shine boutique for the exclusive launch of DRYCLEANONLY’s new collection, I didn’t know what I was getting into! But of course I just had to go.
北京は今となってはとってもホットなスポット。まるで東に位置するドバイみたいな感じ。とてもヤングでフレッシュなエネルギーで溢れた都市で今をいくヤングキッズ達が支えているといっても過言ではない、とても活気溢れる都市になっているよ。
Turns out that Beijing is totally hot right now. Like a Dubai of the Far East, the incredible architectural landscape of this city is jaw-dropping, with a youthful energy powered by the gorgeous young girls and boys who call this metropolis their home. Far from being an ancient capital, Beijing is booming with the sweet nectar of youth – and it’s exciting to watch as the city climbs higher and higher towards the heavens.
それにラグジュアリーな食材やショッピングも楽しめる。その中でもShineは僕のお気に入り。Shineはマルチブランドを取り扱う人気のショップ。日本を始めとするアジアから揃ったクールなブランド達がずらり。TogaやKTZなどなど。Park Hyattモールの地下に位置するこのショップ、今回はDRYCLEANONLYの最新レザージャケットコレクションがローンチ。もちろん大人気で即完売になるほどだ。ヴィンテージレザージャケットにパンクテイストをミックスさせ、フェミニンな顔も持つ唯一無二のジャケットはまさにDRYCLEANONLYがなせる技。DRYCLEANONLYはヴィンテージがベースになってるため、同じものは二つとない一つ一つが希少なアイテムたち。オリジナル性溢れるアイテムに飛びつく人も多数。完売も頷けるね。
And then there’s the luxury, food and shopping which really impressed me. And my favourite shop there by far is Shine. Shine is a famous multibrand store featuring all of the coolest brands from Japan, Asia and beyond – Toga, KTZ, etc – situated in the buzzing basement of the Park Hyatt mall. DRYCLEANONLY recently debuted its new line of leather jackets there, and the response was amazing. Mixing punk with vintage and a feminine twist, Drycleanonly is all about reworked vintage pieces – it’s tshirt couture; one-of-a-kinda unique and beautiful pieces fit for a rockstar.

ストアでのパーティではモデルがDRYCLEANONLYをまといお披露目。シャンパンを飲みすぎてしまったよ(笑) 短い滞在だったけどDRYCLEANONLYチームと周った北京の旅はとっても楽しかったよ。ShineのオーナーGaryのお陰でとっても美味しい料理や、彼の親友も紹介してくれて素敵な時間を過ごすことができたんだ。
After the in-store party, where models walked the floors and I drank probably too much champagne – it was great to have a quick look around Beijing with the Drycleanonly team. Gary from Shine was an amazing host and introduced us to the best food, and his best friends, so we felt at home.

この街にとってアートはとても重要みたい。伝統的なモダンアートが街のいたるところに。798アートゾーン、ここに行けばたくさんのギャラリーやウエアハウス、カフェやクールなショップがたくさん!!
Art has always been important to this city, so what really impressed me was the way the city has merged modern art within the traditional context of the city. The best place to find this is in the cool 798 Art Zone, which is filled with galleries, warehouses, cafes and quirky stores. It was one of my highlights in Beijing.

食事もとっても美味しかった。 香港には何回も行ったことあるけど、また違った食事を楽しむことができるのも楽しみの一つ。特に冬に食べるほホットポッツ(北京風鍋)や北京ダックはもう格別!!!
And when it comes to food, there is nowhere that beats Beijing. I have been to Shanghai many times, and it just doesn’t hit the spot like Beijing – especially in winter, the city’s famous hotpots and ultra chic Peking Duck is like eating a bit of heaven.
