何週間か前のパリのファッションウィークで、何人かの友達と交わした会話の中になぜか必ず出てきたドキュメンタリー映画”Grey Gardens”。これはJeckie Kennedyの家族に関するとっても興味深い映画なんだ。
A few years ago in Paris during fashion week, it seemed like everybody I talked to was raving about “Grey Gardens” – the incredible true life documentary about Jackie Kennedy’s estranged family.
Jackieの従姉妹であるLittle Edieと彼女の母親は、Hamptonsの中でもベストと言われているロケーションに佇む大きくてとってもボロい家に住んで居たんだ。薄暗く色あせた家に住む彼女は、身の周りにあるあらゆるものを使ってファッショナブルに見せることで、異色のファッションアイコンとしてこれまでのファッション業界に大きなインスピレーションとして取り上げられてきた。彼女のパーソナルが色濃く出ているハンドメイドの上から着たファー。グラマーでありつつも極貧である事実がミックスされ、この映画の虜になったファッショニスタも少なくないはず。
Jackie’s cousin Little Edie and her mother lived in the worst house in the best part of The Hamptons – it’s faded and raccoon-infested glory was the backdrop for a kind of decadence in decay that of course became a great inspiration to the fashion world. Little Edie has become a fashion icon because of her ability to make an outfit out of nothing – by sticking true to her personal style and wearing furs over handmade clothes; mixing glamorous with destitute for fabulous effect.

今回紹介するのが、ここまでこの映画に忠実にインスパイアされたブランドはないんじゃないかっていうくらいストーリー性が出ているEk Thongprasertが作るCuratedの世界観。シンプルなシルエットに、スパンコールのプリントや、ペイズリー柄のアイテム。僕のお気に入りはメッシュのトップス/ドレスについた大きなスパンコールが光るシリーズたち。彼らしい独特な世界観が出ているよ。
And nobody, it seems, was inspired more by this heartwarming although rather insane story than designer Ek Thongprasert for his Curated line. Here, he took simple silhouettes and printed trompe l’oeil sequins, paisley and beads to give the effect of worn-down luxury. Other dresses have lace and paisley cut-outs on sporty mesh; and my favourite series plays with oversized sequins stitched into tops with thick string.
そして注目するのはジュエリーたち。ジュエリーに関して彼の右に出るものはいないと言っていいほど芸術的なジュエリーを毎回発表する。パスタのようなパールがフォークに絡まるとても美しいネックレス。コカコーラのボトルのキャップを思わせる “Dirty Rich”の文字が入ったネックレス。大ぶりのカラフルなネックレスはなんと発泡スチロールで出来てるんだよ。
And then there’s the jewellery, which Ek is a master of. Forks wrap around the neck holding strands of Pearl spaghetti; gilded bottle caps spell out “Dirty Rich” in familiar Coca Cola typeface; and oversized chunky jewellery is actually made out of embossed polystyrene.
君の身の周りにある色々なものを使ってコーディネートをしてリッチに、ゴージャスに見せる。ファッションてそういうものなんじゃないかなぁって僕は思うんだ。
It’s all about looking rich; making the most of what you’ve got; and creating a little bit of drama out of ordinary life. And isn’t that what fashion is all about??
